Grandma’s Secret Cure For Colds: Barley Soup!

Back when we were kids, our grandma had the ideal natural cure for colds ready before we even sneezed for the first time: barley soup. If you, like so many, are struggling with an infection right now, here’s the perfect recipe for grandma’s delicious “medicine”.
What you need
1 onion, diced
1 – 2 tablespoons oil
8 oz lean bacon, diced
8 oz pearl barley
2.5 quarts of broth
2 carrots
1 celery
1 clove of garlic
1 leek
Salt and pepper to taste
And here’s how!
Heat oil in a large pot. Add the onion and saute until translucent.
Add the bacon and continue to saute for about 1 minute.
Add pearl barley and broth to pot, stirring to bring to a boil.
Add carrots and celery and simmer for about 20 minutes.
Add garlic and leeks. Simmer for another 20 minutes until everything is tender.
Season with salt and pepper.
