What philistines we were! From our adult point of view, cabbage rolls are, of course, a treat. And the perfect way to annoy your nieces or nephews when they come to visit&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>We have a great recipe for you: German cabbage rolls, just like grandma used to make!<\/p>\n<h2> What you need <\/h2>\n<p><strong>For the cabbage:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1 (1 1\/2-pound) head cabbage<br \/>\n1 to 2 teaspoons salt<\/p>\n<p><strong>For the filling:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1 pound ground beef<br \/>\n1 large egg<br \/>\n1\/3 cup breadcrumbs<br \/>\n1\/2 teaspoon paprika<br \/>\n1\/2 teaspoon dried marjoram<br \/>\n3\/4 teaspoon salt<br \/>\nFreshly ground black pepper, to taste<\/p>\n<p><strong>For the cabbage rolls:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1 to 2 strips bacon<br \/>\n1 cup beef broth<\/p>\n<p><strong>For the sauce:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1 tablespoon cornstarch<br \/>\n1\/4 cup water<\/p>\n<h2> And here&#8217;s how! <\/h2>\n<p>Remove wilted leaves from the cabbage head and boil in a large pot of water for 8 to 10 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Peel off the cabbage leaves and cut off the hard stalk to make them easier to roll. You&#8217;ll need 10 to 12 leaves &#8211; plus a few spare leaves in case one breaks while rolling.<\/p>\n<p>Mix the ground meat with the egg, bread crumbs, paprika, marjoram, salt and bell pepper.<\/p>\n<p>Form meat rolls according to the number of cabbage leaves; place each on a leaf and roll up.<\/p>\n<p>Tie each roll with kitchen twine.<\/p>\n<p>Cut the bacon into small pieces and fry over medium heat for about 6 minutes; set aside. <\/p>\n<p>Saut\u00e9 the cabbage rolls in the bacon grease on the top and bottom, about 6 minutes total.<\/p>\n<p>Transfer everything to a roasting pan, add the beef broth and simmer for 40 to 50 minutes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For the sauce:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Remove the cabbage rolls from the roaster.<\/p>\n<p>In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with 1\/4 cup of water, gradually add to the broth in the pot and bring to a boil, stirring constantly, until everything thickens.<\/p>\n<p>Pour the sauce over the cabbage rolls, garnish with the bacon pieces. <\/p>\n<p><strong>What do you think of our classic cabbage rolls?
