Kalter Hund (Cold Dog) According To Grandma’s Original East German Recipe

Back then in East Germany we had a funny way of naming our dishes: “Tote Oma” (“Dead Granny”) or “Kalter Hund” (“Cold Dog”), for example. Very appealing, indeed! Okay, Tote Oma is really not for everyone, after all, as the dish is based on huge amounts of blood sausage. Kalter Hund, however, tastes nowhere near as bad as the name suggests. In fact, this delicious sweet is a real insider tip for all those who didn’t grow up in East Germany and thus were lucky enough to eat it all the time. Today we’ll show you how to make Kalter Hund!

What you need

1 lb dark chocolate coating
1 fl oz coconut oil
1 cup whipped cream
3.5 oz butter biscuits
3.5 oz chocolate shavings for decorating

And here’s how!

Put the couverture in a pan with the oil and let it melt.

Now stir in the whipped cream.

Pour enough of the mixture into a loaf tin to evenly cover the base.

Now place butter biscuits on top as a second layer – alternating layer after layer of chocolate coating and biscuits in the tin.

Decorate with the chocolate shavings and serve.
