You Have To Try This: Homemade Donuts With Bacon!

As children, we couldn’t understand how completely opposite tastes could be combined in food – sweet and salty at the same time, that just seemed disgusting to us (and chocolate with alcohol still is, to be honest).

But as an adult, you’re more intrepid and on the lookout for new experiences. We have one for you today, and believe us, it’s worth trying: donuts with bacon!

What you need

For the dough:

1 cup whole milk, warmed
1 Tablespoon active dry yeast
1/3 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
6 Tablespoons unsalted butter
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 cups all-purpose flour
1 – 2 quarts vegetable oil

For the topping:

3 Tablespoons unsalted butter
1/2 cup pure maple syrup
1 and 3/4 cups sifted confectioners’ sugar
1/8 teaspoon salt
12 slices cooked bacon

And here’s how!

For the dough:

Mix the warm milk, yeast and sugar. Let rest for 5 minutes.

Add the eggs, butter, vanilla, nutmeg, salt and 245 g of flour, mix well, then add the remaining flour and continue mixing.

Lightly grease a large bowl with oil or nonstick spray. Put the dough in the bowl and cover, let rise for 1.5 hours.

Roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thick and cut out about 12 donuts using a suitable mold.

Heat oil in a frying pan and fry the donuts for 1 minute on each side.

For the topping:

Melt the butter and mix with the maple syrup and salt.

Dip donuts in the glaze, then gently press a bacon slice onto each donut.
